Water & Sewer Billing
Residential Customers
Water and sewer bills are mailed in February, May, August and November. The due dates are on or about the 20th of the month of March, June, September and December.
Residential water and sewer rates are a flat rate, and are usually set by Council in December. The rates are listed below.
Commercial Customers
Commercial customers are billed monthly. There is a flat rate minimum fee based on consumption, and meters are read monthly.
Tenants
Township policy establishes that the property owner is responsible for the payment of all rates and charges for water and sewer services, and that the bill shall be under the owner's name. Since some leases provide for the payment of utilities by the tenant, the Township will also send a water/sewer bill to the Tenant. In order to do so, a Landlord/Tenant Agreement must be completed. Please note that the utility account must be paid in full before the Township may execute a Landlord/Tenant Agreement.
Default on Payment of Water/Sewer Accounts
The day following the due date, a 5% penalty is applied to the outstanding balance. No further interest is charged. The Township, as part of its collection procedure, disconnects water service for the non-payment of the account. Property owners are mailed a "disconnection notice" 14 days prior to the disconnection date. Upon receipt of a notice, please call the Treasury department immediately to make payment arrangements. Failure to do so may result in disconnection and connection fees.
Payment Provisions
- in person at the Township office, 450 Park Street Victoria Harbour, during normal office hours. A mail slot is provided near the entrance for after hour delivery of cheques (no cash please).
- telephone (and computer) banking - if your financial institution is not set up for telephone banking, please have the agency contact the Municipal Treasurer to make the necessary arrangements.
- postdated cheques are accepted, and can be issued for specific due dates or to simulate a monthly payment plan.
- pre-authorized payment plan - this allows the municipality to withdraw funds from your bank account to make tax and/or utility payments on the due date.
Ownership Changes
Changes in property ownership should be reported to the Township as quickly as possible, in order that the account can be placed in the new owner's name.
